Dr. Giriraj Ratan Chandak & Mrs. Nidhi Chandak

Dr. Giriraj Ratan Chandak is a physician, scientist, and medical researcher with deep expertise in molecular diagnostics and genetic disorders. A former Chief Scientist at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, he has made major contributions to understanding genetic diseases especially the Sickle Cell Anaemia-Elimination Mission which was led under his vision focusing on underserved populations of various states. He is a founding faculty member and former Director of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), a recipient of the Sir J.C. Bose Fellowship and a Fellow of all four Indian National Science Academies. He also holds the prestigious fellowship of The World Academy of Sciences and is a member of the national and international consortia to understand and improve healthcare access for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. He founded Lightening Lives LLP to develop affordable diagnostic tools aimed at reducing disease burden and improving global health outcomes. Beyond academics and research, on a personal front, he is an avid reader, a talented singer, and a devoted family companion.

Nidhi, Co-Founder of Lightening Lives LLP, holds an MSc in Operations Research and a PG Diploma in Computer Applications. With expertise in statistical data management and operations optimization, she supports the delivery of affordable diagnostic services for musculopathies and hemoglobinopathies. Her work combines technical skills with hands-on engagement with patients, families, and support groups, ensuring a compassionate, patient-centric approach. In her free time, she finds comfort and joy in the art of crocheting.
